Cairo, Minya, and Sohag
Living without being able to read a document independently, understand a message, or help one’s children with their studies can leave a woman feeling helpless and constantly dependent on others. Yet a woman may fear learning more than she fears remaining as she is. Behind this hesitation, there may be a genuine desire to understand more, read independently, help her children, and face life’s challenges with greater confidence.
The project begins with literacy and then opens a door to learning that does not close when formal classes end, transforming literacy classrooms into cultural and social centers for reading, learning, and skills development.

Services reach 45 villages and popular urban neighborhoods across Cairo, Minya, and Sohag, through literacy classes and cultural and social libraries. Of the libraries developed into cultural and social centers, 17 are in Minya and 8 are in Sohag. The project serves girls and women aged 18 to 55, literacy learners and graduates, and residents of the targeted communities.
Beginning to learn after years away from education is not easy. It takes courage to start again and someone who believes that missing out on opportunities in the past does not mean a woman no longer deserves to learn. With your support, you can give someone who has chosen to try a genuine opportunity to learn. You can help through your time, expertise, or support.
